Have Faith (feat. Tubby Boy)

from Afrofuturist Vol. 1 by Nelson Navarro & Wyln

/

about

Track number two presents a darker and more twisted landscape to contrast the A side - Have Faith brings a feeling of urgency to the mix. Wyln’s haunting melodies linger above solid 808 basslines and half way through the song we’re introduced to the contrasting voice of Tubby Boy, a Croydon visionary, talented MC and fellow preacher of self-empowerment for the oppressed alongside Nelson. While Navarro discusses his desire for working hard in order to manifest his goals - perhaps before it’s too late - and can be heard advocating you to recognise the things that are setting you apart from others Tubby brings his unique perspective to the table. His too comments on the uniqueness of his hunger and goes on to promise he’ll maintain building his own momentum just as he does in the past. When the venues reopen we can envision this one bringing a skank to the party.

lyrics

[Intro: Nelson Navarro]
Have faith
Gotta wait
Be so patient
Be so patient
Have faith
Gotta wait
Be so patient
Be so patient

[Chorus: Nelson Navarro]
They wanna hold us down
I ain’t gonna take it now
Been working way too hard
How I’m gonna lay in the ground?
Been working way too hard
Been working way too hard
They wanna hold us down
I ain’t gonna take it now
Been working way too hard
How I’m gonna lay in the ground?
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)

[Verse 1: Nelson Navarro]
They wanna hold us down and I seen it
Stay on my path and the route been scenic, I mean it
My journey been fire I’m a Phoenix
Fall then I rise to defeat it
Crazy what I seen on the way (believe it)
Cling to my dreams all day (I need it)
I got a need to create
So I stand on the stage and I pray
Pray for a better life and I find I better work if I wanna climb, I’m sky high
Never know what the limits are till I find I hit the top, see the bigger view in my mind’s eye
And I search in myself, been a while since I cry
Lot of tears in my soul but I keep ‘em inside
And I lost my bros plus I got a lotta woes and I really don’t know if I’m ever gonna fly so I

[Pre Chorus: Nelson Navarro]
Have faith
Gotta wait
Be so patient
Be so patient
Have faith
Gotta wait
Be so patient
Be so patient

[Chorus: Nelson Navarro]
They wanna hold us down
I ain’t gonna take it now
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)

[Verse: Tubby Boy]
They don’t understand just how I function
Cos I am the one that grew up on free school dinners and luncheons
So my hunger is different from ya average hustler
Every time I tied I puncture the pages with heavyweight bars
Sometimes I leave my wrist ruptured
They throw a spanner in the works
I throw the hammer down and you’ve could never touch this
Tap full of flows and barrels full of bars they would’ve sweared manna drunkard
They wondered how a fat boy could ever run this
If there’s breath up in my lungs I spring back to the top my career’s on a bungee
So many years to prepare, so many years of despair
They never pulled out a chair, built my table from the screws to the legs
No one ain’t stopping this, no tolerance for incompetence
The moralists be prosperous and stay sonorous
Believe in confidence and you’re honour this
Never profitless or monotonous
Saliva leaving my oesophagus
Just lyrical dominance
Wordplay with these consonants
Vomitous flows stay shocking the populous and it’s never gonna stop until they abolish me

[Pre Chorus: Nelson Navarro]
Have faith
Gotta wait
Be so patient
Be so patient
Have faith
Gotta wait
Be so patient
Be so patient

[Chorus: Nelson Navarro]
They wanna hold us down
I ain’t gonna take it now
Been working way too hard
How I’m gonna lay in the ground?
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)
They wanna hold us down
I ain’t gonna take it now
Been working way too hard
How I’m gonna lay in the ground?
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)
Been working way too hard
(How I’m gonna lay in the ground?)

[Outro: Nelson Navarro]
How I’m gonna lay in the ground?
How I’m gonna lay in the ground?
